Why The Garuda?
Garuda (Sanskrit: गरुड़ Garuḍa; Pāli: गरुळ Garuḷa)
The Garuda is steeped in legend, mythology, and symbolism. The ancient symbol spans across many Eastern cultures and traditions.
Often depicted carrying Vishnu [Vishnu is the preserver and protector of the universe. His role is to return to the earth in troubled times and restore the balance of good and evil. So far, he has been incarnated nine times] . In order to understand the metaphor of the Garuda one must first understand the symbolism surrounding Vishnu. Vedic religions, like Hinduism, on the surface seem to have a multitude of gods. However, at the core of this system of belief there is only 1 God. Formless and ever-present, the God in this system of belief both governs and experiences, is the observer as well as the observed. Often referred to as the collective consciousnesses of the Universe. The characteristics of this singular God are subdivided into Creation/Preservation/Destruction. The deities depicted as gods are representations of the abstract concepts surrounding this celestial trinity. This follows in the ancient tradition of cultures that span the globe.
In this vein, the Garuda symbolizes wisdom, bravery & fortitude of spirit. In its metaphorical depiction as the Vahana (being, typically an animal or mythical entity, a particular Hindu deity is said to use as a vehicle) of Vishnu, the Garuda is the vehicle of creation.
This is why we have adopted this rich and ancient symbol to carry our creative endeavors at New Culturx.
